Prevention and Integrative Oncology (PRIO) - German Cancer Society

PRIO is part of the German Cancer Society and was founded on 25th February 2010.

PRIO comprises 4 topics: complementary oncology, nutrition, sport and prevention.

Concerning complementary oncology PRIO will focus on evaluation of existing therapies and defining their usefulness but also difficulties and dangers. An important point is the large field of interactions in form of synergies and antagonism.

We plan to create a systematic strategy for clinical studies in which to test traditional therapies of German as well as international provenience and to establish a pipeline of new natural substances which we will develop from preclinical to clinical therapy.

These substances will be tested in a synergistic or supportive context.

PRIO as part of the German Cancer Society will try to establish collaboration with other study groups within our society and with other groups and is interested also in international projects.

We think it will be important to establish a network of oncological hospitals where patients will find sound counseling on CAM and to define a curriculum for complementary oncology. Another topic will be the inauguration of a task force against alternative methods which endanger our patients which will give warnings to physicians as well as to the public.
