Green tea for prevention

Thirty epidemiological studies, one meta-analysis, and two trials were identified to review green tea in prevention of cancer. There is lack of documentation for green tea in the treatment of cancer. The overall findings from the majority of the studies show that green tea could be beneficial in the prevention of cancer. This is the case particularly for gastrointestinal cancers, when green tea-drinkers are compared with non-drinkers, or high-intake green tea drinkers are compared with low-intake drinkers. However, these findings need to be confirmed in large and long term cohort studies and clinical trials. Potential confounding factors and heterogeneity in green tea, such as quality of product, quantity and duration of drinking, diet, environment, and populations may influence the positive findings or produce inconsistent results among studies. Drinking green tea appears safe at regular, habitual and moderate use.
